Hawker’s Automotive & Economy Mufflers Larimer County Colorado did a great job on replacing a dying catalytic converter in my old 2000 Subaru Legacy wagon. My daughter is driving the car now and it flashed the check engine light on one day. She took it to a parts store to have the code read and they told her to get the catalytic converter checked.

She took it to Hawker’s Automotive & Economy Mufflers Larimer County Colorado on her own and I was impressed with how they treated her. They give a reasonable estimate up front and explained why it need to be replaced based on the engine code. Once they got into the job and learned that this particular car had a dual converter, they called her back and said the total would be about one-hundred dollars more because they really would have to replace both as a single assembly.

They did the work as quoted and on time. When I went with her to pick up the vehicle the owner showed me the unit they removed, and torsy if it wasn’t exactly as described. The thing has two catalytic elements but only one oxygen sensor. If Subaru had installed two sensors, they could have traced the fault to a single element. But the sensor was at the exhaust end of both converters, so the efficiency failure code couldn’t pinpoint the failing module.

I also learned that one particular model of Subaru is often targeted by thieves because the catalytic converter is so easy to remove. The crooks use some portable power tools to cut the units off and then sell them for about sixty dollars each. Hawker’s took care of a rash of victims a few years ago. Lucky for those drivers the culprits got caught and some of their insurance deductibles got covered by restitution.
